I had been asking B to give me a very special present for my birthday: no more temper tantrums. He is 6, people. In the days leading up to my birthday, if he started to flip out about something, I'd say, "No no no. Remember your present for me?" And, it would more or less cool his jets. However, on my birthday, B flipped out about something bedtime related. I said, "Oh, B! No temper tantrums! Remember your present for me?" And, he stopped crying for a second to say, "No. I gave you a pink jacket!" and then finished his fit.
So, that worked like a charm.
